Inspired by HotDog's nick thread and Odyssey's sig, I decided it's time for you to tell a little about your avatars (or lack of them). My avatar is a Night Elf from the Warcraft game. I don't play any computer games myself, but the husband does, and these Night Elves intrigue me. I think they look cool too, especially female ones. So that's why I have this avatar. You probably recognize the graphic at the top of this forum as the same picture as my avatar. It was actually a coincidence. I installed a new skin for this forum (the horrible pink one - some of you probably remember) and it happened to have that kind of a picture at the top. That inspired me to make my own.

Mine comes from a website listing information about Messier objects. It's an image of M51, the Whirlpool Galaxy (and its "sidekick" M51b or NGC 5195, which is technically part of M51, but most of the time people are just referring to the spiral when they speak of M51). I decided I wanted a cool galaxy picture to use, and the M51 pair looks pretty cool. In college, waiting for the bus back from the supermarket one day, I wrote a poem using a spiral arm of a galaxy as a metaphor for a living human: it's a pattern through which stuff passes and is transformed. Spiral arms turn gas into stars and those stars turn hydrogen into heavier stuff (including the carbon we're made of), and humans turn food and drink into waste products and sensory information into ideas and art.

Oooo, my thread was an inspiration! *bows* So yeah... I'll let you guys down... no fancy story behind my avatar. I don't even remember where I got the pic! I kinda stumbled upon it on the web, thought it was cool, and modded the colors... wanted them a warm green/yellow. Guess I just generally like pics like that... it's harmonic and tranquil, to my eye at least.

I have been looking for a picture that would show a person half-hidden under a cape or something for a long time, because I thought it would fit me just right as an avatar; and I simply ran into this one in a site I just walked in at random; so feel free to consider it as a trick of fate

Just my stupid dog. If you know anything about a boxer...they can be stupid at times.

I don't think mine needs any further information than what you get from it. hehe "In spite of my rage, I am still just a rat in a cage." ~Tim (selling my life's-blood to make a dollar)

Tim, I like your avatar. It is quite self-explanatory.

My avatar is of the screens on the original Matrix movie. I just found it while surfing, saved on the drive months ago, and whadda you know, it's there when I need it.

I dont remember what the website was now, but it was some religion that believed humans are aliens and that we are going to get to go home soon or something like that, it was a while ago. Anyways I have always liked that theory (not believe, just like, its fun to think about) so I made their logo my avatar here.

Mine's lyrics from this awfully-good artist, Damien Rice. I definitely recommend him if anyone likes easy listening.

ah I was mistaken, the pic in my avatar is actually the logo for this site http://www.thejinn.net/index.html (shaytana is a type of Jinn) |

Mines pretty obvious, for any die hard MBTI buffs.......... Sorry Joe, but this is way too cool. It's also been my desktop wallpaper at work for years. Jack
Posted by: Division56 Apr 26 2004, 02:52 AM
You had type-logic wallpaper on your computer for years? I rotate mine weekly.
Posted by: misspadfoot Apr 26 2004, 04:06 AM
INTrPosr, I think I recognize yours, but I can't remember where it's from. You mentioned Joe... does that mean it's TypeLogic? I know the creator of that site is named Joe. Mine is just a nice little NF-ish avatar (I made it myself!) that I also use for my LJ icon. I'm not exactly sure if I'd call music my religion, but it's definitely as close to religion as I can get. And I like the colors
Posted by: Division56 Apr 26 2004, 04:08 AM
I just pointed out that it was type-logic in the above post.
Posted by: NGene Apr 26 2004, 08:40 AM
Yep, INTrPosr's avatar is from TypeLogic (how many times has it been repeated now? I immediately recognised the picture because I had stumbled across the mousepad page before, but couldn't remember the address without peeking at the properties of the avatar image.
| Posted by: Vagabond Apr 26 2004, 03:04 PM | ||
Do you mean that INTrPosr's avatar is from TypeLogic...? How could I have missed that site!! It is cool |
Posted by: INTrPosr Apr 26 2004, 05:40 PM
Just in case no one was sure, my Avatar came from Joe Butt's Type Logic page @ www.typelogic.com. ...... Just in case anyone wanted to know. Okay, enough of that!! Jack

If any ohter types came in here they would think we were as crazy as a bunch of geeks could get.

Mine is a picture of Joshua Norton. Otherwise known as Norton I, (self-proclaimed)Emperor of the United States and Protector of Mexico. Also known simply as "Emperor Norton." He came to California during the Gold Rush, lost everything and went crazy. He spent the last thirty years of his life walking the streets of San Francisco in his Emperor's uniform, issuing proclamations and money (in his own worthless script). He became such a beloved fixture of old San Francisco, that he was able to survive on the generosity of appreciative citizens. I don't think I have anything in common with him, but I'm looking.

Self protrait. It's a reflection as seen from the back window of my guitarist's suv. Cropped. A couple people said they liked it so I figured I'd use it until something better comes along. Edit: The new one is a picture from my band's old practice space. That's my bass on the left.

Mine came outta http://www.punkerslut.com. I am no longer an Atheist but I still find Atheism interesting just the same
Posted by: Metimbo=IMMT May 3 2004, 06:36 PM
Blue, welcome. I find the fact that you have that avatar, but are no longer an atheist perplexing. It reminds me of the scene in Full Metal Jacket when the soldier gets caught by a higher ranking officer wearing a Button with a Peace Sign on his jacket with "Born to Kill" written on his helmet. Or, maybe the avatar could mean there are no god"s". As in plural. There is only One God (which I believe). Anyways, just saying hi! ~Tim

Maybe he's shifted into weak atheism (agnosticism) or is religious for social or other reasons.

Mine's a Photoshopped painting of John Howe's image of Tolkein's Door of Night. I'm a big Tolkien fan.

Okay, I am playing around with my avatar right now. I find that the INTP avatar is pretty generic at this forum for obvious reasons. However, I remain unsure what fits me currently. I am not a gamer, but found myself lured by the "Call To Power" cover. I am sure that it will change before long. If I could describe my present state, or even a specific iterest, it would be easy to make a decision.
Posted by: Lovechild May 16 2004, 08:11 PM
Mine was called Lovebird in the collection on another forum I hang out at, it kinda stuck... nothing special.
Posted by: flan2dave May 25 2004, 06:55 PM
Vagabond, I thought I knew where your avatar comes from but I didn't say anything because I wasn't sure. I passed by the Tekken 4 game cover again so now I am, your avatar is the character named Jin from the Tekken fighting game series. hmm, I guess now that I posted I'll have to explain my avatar. When I first started posting on a gaming message forum I chose a pokemon I liked (quilava) first for my icon. From then on I chose pokemon to remain consistent and recognizable. When I read about the chameleon aspect of INTPs, kekleon came to mind as the most suitable pokemon possible for this particular forum. I'm about ready to switch back to quilava though.

So after my very first post file cabinet asked me where my avatar came from. Figured I might as well dig up this old thread and let everyone know formally. It was originally a pencil sketch of a project I did in a design class almost a year ago. I scanned it into photoshop and tweaked it a little and added color. I have pictures and drawings of other projects that I've done the same to, so I might rotate through them. I tend to get bored with things quickly. Maybe not necessarily bored, but it's just so much more fun to mix things up every once in a while.

The comic book Johnny the Homicidal Maniac (boy do I feel out of place).
Posted by: CosmicDust Jul 11 2004, 12:11 PM
My new avatar, since the old one was a bandwidth bandit and I therefore lost it, is a piece of a picture I took at the Las Campanas Observatory in Chile of one of the telescope domes with the morning mist in the valleys behind it. I loved those "oceans of clouds" I could see from the mountaintop after the night of observing was done.

Mine is a photograph I took a year or so ago. The large version is http://www.users.qwest.net/~lhhw/other%20media/fenceshadows.jpg. I selected it pretty randomly from among my livejournal icons, since they're already the right size. I may get bored after a while and change it.

| Um I was looking for an avatar for somewhere else & found a few Avatar sites. One had 'Angels' & that certainly wasn't appropriate for me, but I decided to go further for the hopeful reasons that Lovechild might understand, and I found they weren't angels at all but Norse lads, perhaps a manga idea of what angelic beings ( well, messengers rather, you notice that one has a scythe... ) are in Northern mythology. Unfortunately I aged past 14 to my regret, but I decided to use them ( the others elsewhere ) despite never having been good-looking. But they still expressed something of my lack of charity...
