Does anyone have a photographic memory or know how to speed read? If you do, is there a reliable method for learning how to speed read or to increase memory recall, etc.?

Photographic memory: Learn to draw from life, starting with still lifes (for accuracy in these, using an upside-down reflection in a mirror as the reference rather than the still life itself tends to be helpful. Messing with the context helps wiht seeing a collection of shapes rather than a milk jug and some oranges) and working up to things that'll move in 30sec or so.

Speed reading: Dunno. Practice? (Getting an accurate idea of an article just from skimming it seems similar to what I've heard of being used in this area.) Perhaps it's something you do already (compared to the general population) and consider it normal.

For speed reading: http://www.mindtools.com/speedrd.html

=)

Though I didn't see anything about photographic memory, the rest of the website is a great resource as well. It's also enjoyable to surf.

Oh I am speed reading alright... I never thought of how and why though, but Odyssey's article rang totally true. As far as photographic memory is concerned, I am a total jerk intp/blushing.gif I do have a very good memory, but usually it is about the essence of things and not the appearences... even trying to focus on it doesn't help, I will have a perfect recollection of what I focused on, but there will be parts I will be totally missing. But huh, anyway...

That's me too. I used to read 500+ wpm. I read about half that fast now- the same speed as I would hear a conversation. I'm not sure how that happened.

Speedreading boils down to this: instead of looking at one word at a time when you read, you look at 7 or so words at a time. I've downloaded software that helps you practice reading whole phrases and sentences at a time, etc., but I'm too lazy to really work on it.

I've been to that site before when I looked at speed reading about 9 months ago.

fotographic memmory is good but dangerous. you can use it to give some account of what you have seen but you can't expect to understand it. I think we have try to understand first then to speek.
