INTP Discussion Forum > Introductions > Hi. Hello. How are you?

Posted by: Horger Jul 5 2004, 03:36 PM
yup.

Hi, I'm Jeremy, or Horger. Whichever works. I found this place after File_Cabinet sent me a PM about it on another forum (genmay.net). He had posted some sort of quiz, and I replied that my results pointed towards INTP. Then I read the great INTP article by Paul James, and I identified with it almost perfectly.

Anyway, I'm an 18 year old guy, just graduated high school in Southeastern Pennsylvania.

I'm into a lot of different types of music. Classic rock, metal, rap, ambient sounds, industrial. I like David Bowie, Nine Inch Nails, Radiohead, Pink Floyd, KMFDM, Faith no More, the cure, Led Zeppelin, Slayer... hell, even Eminem sometimes.

I love to snowboard, play tournament paintball, camp, fish, swim, and sit by myself and think in nice, relaxing places. (mountain peaks, the middle of a lake, etc.)

Anyway, Hi smile.gif The forums look really nice, and I love reading and replying to the threads here. They're very intellectually stimulating.

I'm going to Penn State University, delaware county campus. I'll be commuting to the local campus for 2 years then I go to the main campus. My major is undecided as of yet. I'm taking a few courses like Chem, Biology, Earth Science, first so I can figure out what I like to do.

Sounds like joy. Here's some tips:

1) Try to take one college class during the summer before you get serious (You wouldn't guess how much it helps). I was turned into meat-mulch my first semester, because I took on college like I took on high school.

2) If you have an interesting hobby, and it doesn't make money, find a new one. I'd play pool.

3) Tweak your GPA with easy classes. Take photography or African American Womans's History in Northern Russia.

4) If you're moving into an apartment, don't pick the opposite sex for your roomate.

5) Have fun, so you can remember why you are putting yourself through it all.

What have I gotten myself invovled with? Oh well.

Anyway, I'm from the same forums (genmay.net) Got the same recommendation for here biggrin.gif

My name is Scott, but most people call me indy online. Im 19 years old as of last week, and im canadian living in the Arizona desert (yay). I am INTx. Very borderline between J and P and after reading a bit, I fit INTP a little bit better.

I suffered through the IB program in high school and went to a engineering school in Michigan for my freshman year, but i didnt like it. It was a continued boredom from HS. It wasn't a good fit. Now im floundering a bit even though i know what i want to do and how to get there, but i really dont want to waste time at college, because no matter how important the degree is, i find it boring. I am transfering to ASU this fall for the acocunting program there and also so i can work at a local CPA firm. But yeah, thats all not too relevant. and is pretty uninteresting. I was deans list first year regardless of not caring.

My hobbies are well, interesting i guess. Bowling is my number one hobby as i still entertain thoughts of going pro. I will too for that matter, but thats another reason to finally go to ASU i guess. Free coaching. Hockey: Im a huge hockey fan, but that should be expected, my parents are Canadian smile.gif I cheer for the pathetic coyotes. I also play poker alot. Hold'em only. I earned a bit while at college.

Non sports things. I am a movie fanatic. I try to watch everything that I can aside from romantic comedies. I dont like them much as they appear so fake. I like sci-fi the most but hollywood has managed to screw up almost every good sci-fi made movie book they've done. I'm reading Hubbard's Mission Earth series now. I also plan on watching Firefly in the next week. Music wise, I vary from ambient sounds to trance to angst music depending on my mood. I also listen to sporting news radio alot because its funny to listen to the hosts rip on uninformed callers.
I enjoy tranquil cool places, preferably mountain lakes where i can fish.
I like math alot, I can do calc in my head. I enjoy some sciences. I am currently trying to teach myself physics, but i havent gotten very far due to other interferences. I enjoy reading about quantum mechanics and other similar things.
Computers of course, and gaming.

I also have been battling with cynicism since early high school. Yay. As of this month, im winning, but it changes regularly.

What a pessimistic read... but i do feel better after typing it out.
Sorry for poor style grammar and spelling.

edit: I forgot to mention the gimme: I have issues, many pertaining to my INTP personality. biggrin.gif

hey =)
Just out of curiosity... why would you battle it??
because you don't like yourself being a cynic or because others got this problem with cynicism?

I think cynicism is the logical/ usual result out of seeing the world and its people from this distant point of view... intp/ninja.gif

and with the right people you can even enjoy it tremendously... laugh.gif

Good point.

Well, its more battling the negative aspects of being a cynic. It's ok to distrust people in general... and i certainly do do that. Maybe im just looking at it the wrong way: the way which others view cynicism. I know that my whole life i've been fed "cynicism is bad" ect. I've probably just been corrupted by all those people. Even after thinking about it I can't think of a good example of why being cynical has been bad. wink.gif
I maybe just need to find the right people. Thanks.

I'm from Eastern Pennsylvania too. And I also haven't a clue.

Eastern eh? what parts?

I'm in Boothwyn, a few minutes southwest of philly, and a few minutes north of Wilmington, Delaware.

edit: oh I read your blog. Stroudsburg... sounds pretty familiar but I don't think I've ever been there.

Posted by: Division56 Jul 9 2004, 12:46 PM
I have family in Yardley though. Stroudsburg is 20mins north of Easton.

Back when the pathetic Coyotes where the equally pathetic Jets, I used to live and die with the team (die mostly). I can feel your pain.

NOTE: as an INTP, those aren't words you will hear me say very often. smile.gif

Its just so frustrating watch the coyotes now. One let down after another. This last season was the worst. I still wonder how Boucher managed to get that shutout streak. He had no help, other than the puck bounced his way. The team in front of him was terrible. Can't say I watched the jets much, other than Selanne's 50 goal seasons as I was an oilers fan at the time.

Then there was this years draft. Im sure blake wheeler is going to be good.... someday, but at this point there is little chance for him to play in the NHL in the next 4 years. Oh well, there is hope for the future, just like with my Cardinals. unsure.gif

ATHF is pretty much my favorite cartoon as of late. THe early episodes suck though.
