wow gay marriage in Massachusetts. Thank goodness for Boston.
I know there will be challenges to it, might even get over turned, but the USA is the 4th country in the world to allow gay marrage now.

I'd like to point out, that Canada allowed it a few months ago. I think there are some big challeneges to it here.

So, in all of the homophobic North American continent, only Mexico is left.
And in gay friendly Europe only Belgium and the Netherlands allow it.
But I'm always told how gay friendly Europe is and how backwards we are here in North America. Just more European smoke (and boy do they smoke, but we're the unhealthy ones apparently) to cover their true conservative ultra-religious nature.

What state will be next? California?

Well, hypocresy is indeed an issue in Europe... everyone is "open-minded" about what people do in their beds, but God forbid, do not make it official... yikes. It is not about religion, still... it is about conservatism, as you pointed out. Europeans seem to have a great deal of trouble realising that tradition is good as a bases, from which you have to move on if you are going to evolve - they fear that changes in their traditional ways are going to bring their standards upside down. We lack rationality over here; I find a hell of a lot more honesty in someone that is against something (gays for instance - even though I disagree), but acting open-minded about their rights to exist in hiding and rejecting the idea of officially accepting those rights, well... speak about narrow-mindness. intp/alttongue.gif

Small-mindedness is exposed in larger quantities; this behaviour is global and a part of norming in societies. It isn't easily resolved since it stems from a natural code that we are suited to, and societies adapt from history on a more generational rate (I wonder how much comes and go) so we will always deal with these sorts of things, especially when we're not fixating on the ethics underneath it all.

Correction; in Gay friendly Europe, Danmark allows Gay marriage as well, in fact we were the first nation in the world to:

1) allow gay marriage
2) perform a sex change operation
3) free picture porn.

Hmmm... I am probably the exception rather than the rule (normally am LOL). But, I would be considered "narrow minded" when it comes to "gay issues" (and a host of others that others might deem politically incorrect).
It's not that I've always been this way. I have come to these conclusions through years of study, research, and yes....experimentation.
I am religious for those that don't know by now. However, most of my convictions come not as a result of me being religious, but analytical thought about "right and wrong" and "global consequences".

My "narrow mindedness" is not the lack of ability to be "open minded enough" to agree, but rather the decision that acts are "wrong". A decision that there is a "morality"....ifyou will....

If there were a group of people that liked shooting each other and all agreed that it was ok to shoot each other and be shot, I would disagree with it. Just because so-called "consenting adults" agree upon something, doesn't make it "right". Lack of morality is, and has been taking it's toll on this world. The more "open minded" and "PC" that people get, I think you will likely see the more de-humanizing and more "victimization of the individual", rather than people taking responsibility for, not only their actions, but others as well.

I don't know if any of this made any sense, or even if it contradicts itself. I've had the brain off for a few days out of town, and just now re-booting.

I would flame with you over this, but I recently took up a new motto:

Fighting on the internet is like competing in the special olympics

Even if you win, you're still retarded.
