INTP Discussion Forum > The Local Pub > The Distribution of the P-Spectrum

I've been thinking of the p-spectrum today. Has anyone ever thought about how SJ's, who value homogenity make up a large portion of the population, and NT's who value individuality, make up a small portion?

Do any of you appriciate the fact that we're rare? Do the SJ's appriciate the fact that they're plentiful?

I'm kind of thinking that the distribution of personality types is dependent on what society needs to function.
In other words, most societies at this point in time require SJs in order to keep things running.
The rarer types are needed once in a while to introduce something new to society to keep it fresh and ensure it's survival as well.
I guess that is sort of group evolution theory.
I don't think we are born with our personalities. We might be born with a predisposition for a certain personality, but our personality is shaped by what is needed.
Kind of like your occupation in a way. You might be born with musical ability. But if you grow up and there are already enough musicians you're going to probably get a job in something else that is needed.

So all personality types are needed, it's a big happy family.

Yes to both your questions. I have an ISTJ co-worker, who despises being so common. She really likes my ability to creatively resolve conflicts. However, I admire her ability to remain stable and tend to detail, which is a great deal of our work. When I tell her that I admire her ability to be steadfast, she usually makes an inferrence that I am labeling her a plodder. Maybe...... but I can jump all over a project in the newness stage, yet have no patience for follow through and monitoring. I consider myself planful, until I am up against her. Then I realize how spontaneous my nature truly is. In my opinion, NTs are the folks getting the project started and SJs maintain and keep it going. The only problem with that is I never believe that anything is etched in stone and should change as the times do, namely The Constitution.
